The Timelessness Of AKBC Radio
-By Uduak I. Etukikpa

Time they say waits for nobody; time they say is money; time they say is business; time they say is many things. But the most popular thing said about time is from the Holy Bible in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 tagged “Everything Has Time or A Time For Everything” depending on the version of the Bible and the concern of this writer, of all the things said about time in that portion of the Bible is the second part of verse seven which says “There is time to keep silent and a time to speak”.
A radio station is capable of talking all minutes all day, but definitely, there is a time the radio, in this case, the broadcaster on duty must be silent. This however does not stop the fellow from functioning in the studio. In linking a programme outside the studio, the duty continuity announcer, as a matter of discipline, must cease to talk and play music and on time, in order to establish the required contact; but unfortunately, that is never the case with our own AKBC Radio. That is instead the time the announcer rushes to finish the paid announcements on the table or sometimes, due to what could be described as negligence of duty, the people would be busy playing music.
Our beloved AKBC Radio, probably because of one of the things people say about time, that is, “Time is money” would want to maximally utilize this. Well, it is not bad, but it is bad enough when it has to interfere with other programmes. One minute or a little over that is not in any way capable of incapacitating the financial strength of AKBC Radio. AKBC Radio is noted for this act of super-imposing one programme on another, especially when it is coming from another radio station. And what surprises me most is the fact that this behavior is not peculiar to a particular person. At every shift every day, you must notice it.
It is my belief that the AKBC Radio has time for each of the programmes broadcast on the radio and if my belief is correct, how come then that at 7:00am, 4:00pm and 10:00pm every day, we the ardent listeners of AKBC Radio would be linked to the national network news only after the headlines, and in some cases, after the first few lines of the main news are over? Does it mean that the AKBC Radio operates a different time piece that would always make it relay the network news minutes after it must have started? Or is it because they say that time is money that they feel network news should wait for them to make their money first?
We could afford to forgo playing music rather than the network news because you can always play the music over and over again whereas for the news, once it is over, it is over and you may not have the opportunity of hearing that news item again. One news item missed could cause somebody a fortune. News is a very important business on radio and so people should never be denied any bit of it. Sometimes, due to time constraint, one could manage to listen to only the headlines before leaving for something else, but in a situation where you are denied the opportunity of listening to even the headline news, probably because time they say is money, what do you do? Definitely you lose out completely.
Our dear AKBC Radio should refrain from this attitude. As a matter of fact and discipline, they should strictly follow the timetable for each programme so that some programmes would not be denied their air time.
THERE IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING.
