AK Police Declare Kidnappers as Prime Enemies
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Nasir Oki, has adjudged Akwa Ibom State as the most peaceful state in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
He stated this recently in Uyo while fielding questions from newsmen during the 2010 Police Community Relations Committee's week celebration in the state.
Mr. Oki said that contrary to the widespread impression that kidnapping and other crimes were on the rise in the state, and that the state government was been encompassed by the situation as crime rate in the state, in his own assessment has drastically reduced, compared to many months back. Hear him: “I cannot see a situation whereby some body would be working against his own progress the state government, I believe, would not be working against his own progress. What the state government wants is the security of lives and property of his people, and that is when it can be able to move forward. The government that wants to govern people will not be the government that will continue to kidnap people Oki argued, urging the people to discard such insinuations.
Asked if the force itself was compromising with the situation, he said “police do not cover criminals; we are actually enemies. The battle line has been drawn; they are our enemies because they are looking and hunting for the lives of the policemen, and we are looking for them too. So, there is no way that we can continue to compromise with them; really we are sworn enemies. They are looking for us to kill; we are looking for them to arrest and keep behind bars, so that everybody in this state and other places could be able to sleep well”.
He drew attention to the commitment of the state government to ensuring a crime free society, adding that, this was evidenced in the numerous assistance the government had given to the police force in the state.  Comments
