Declares Ambition |
Chief (Mrs.) Helen Esuene has on
Wednesday, March 3, 2010 formally cleared the air as regards
her aspiration to run for the Eket Senatorial Seat for the
2011 democratic dispensation.
Speaking on the occasion of briefing newsmen on the issue at
Villa Marina Hotel, Eket, the ex-commissioner stated that
the decision to aspire for the senatorial seat had been well
considered and that she believes that she can give her
senatorial district a better representation that will foster
greater unity and development in the state and in the
country.
While commending the role of the media in Akwa Ibom State,
Chief Helen Esuene disclosed that she is endowed with the
requisite character, experience, discipline and charisma to
bring more effective representation that the senatorial
district is noted for in the past to bear in contemporary
Nigerian politics.
While declining comment on the performance of the sitting
senator, she confided that based on exposure and leadership
experience, she is poised to make her representation stand
out among the rest in the state, the country, and indeed
foster effective collaboration on the international front.
She also used the forum to acknowledge the role of the press
and its potency to set agenda, generate discourse and
institute effective representation in the country's
democracy.
Reiterating on her effort that culminated in the
establishment of three model hospitals in the state and the
upgrading of the federal hospital, Uyo to the status of
university teaching hospital when she was the Minister of
Health, Mrs. Esuene vowed to work assiduously in the same
vein towards making the Maritime Academy, Oron a
degree-awarding institution, and effecting the relocation of
Mobil headquarters to Eket, Akwa Ibom State, among others,
these being her priority projects.
She therefore affirmed her resolve to work for desirable
partnership with the media that would be of good mutual
benefit to each partner and the nation at large.
