PDP Prohibits Endorsement/Nomination of
Candidates
|
The south/south leadership of
the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has prohibited further
use of such words as endorsement, adoption, nomination and
no vacancies within the party until the ground is fully
ripe.
This was handed down by the south\south zonal chairman of
the party, Chief Edet Nkpubre, during his official tour of
south/south states rounded off with Akwa Ibom recently.
Chief Nkpubre stated that the caution was necessary in order
to maintain internal decorum and peace within the party in
the state, as well as create a leveled playing ground for
members who want to aspire to certain political offices. He
noted that for the party to achieve maximum result and exert
the necessary influence come 2011 general elections,
registered members and retaining the already secured members
was of absolute necessity. He therefore urged the party in
Akwa Ibom to purge itself of every moves and disposition
capable of discouraging people from joining the party.
In a sensitization session with the party in Uyo, the
impeccable politician tasked the working committee of PDP in
the state to look out for anti party activities as well as
break down of law and order, as electioneering year was
drawing near. Corroborating on the party stand on zonal
arrangement at the national level of the party, the
south/south chairman said the same was applicable in the
party leadership, to ensure adherence to the zonal
arrangement that was in operation in the state at the
moment.
Nkpubre who sort freedom from any negative influence on the
party charged the leadership to be creative in generating
funds for the party rather than depend on the state
governor, in order to ensure their independence.
He therefore expressed appreciation for the able leadership
quality of Prince Ita Etuk who he noted had been able to
stabilize the polity.
In his part, Prince Ita Etuk welcome the south-south
chairman and his team to Akwa Ibom, and seized the
opportunity to brief the august visitors of the effort of
the committee in ensuring that dividends of democracy were
delivered to the people and in preparation towards 2010/2011
primaries and elections in the state.
He said his working committee just rounded off a tour of the
31 local government areas in the state, where party
positions and stand points were communicated at closer range
to the grassroots. Among various achievements listed by the
state chairman of the party was the acquisition of 2000sqm
hectares of land, which he expressed the hope of hosting the
2011 gubernatorial congress in the state. Ita Etuk told the
visiting team that it was a tradition in the state for
whoever gets the mandate to hold it for eight years, after
which it shall move to another zone. He said the party's
position to stand by the administration was based on such
grounds and the excellence performance of the present
administration.
He therefore called on the national leadership of the party
to exercise disciplinary measures on party members who were
bent on tarnishing the image of the party through negative
politics.
Among those present at the meeting were members of the
working committee of PDP in the state, chapter chairmen,
senatorial chairmen, ward chairmen, members of the state
executive council to mention but a few.
