Udoedehe's campaign office launch: Uyo people undaunted by media report -Sam Effanga
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Samuel Effanga, has stressed that politicians in Uyo Local Government Area will remain undaunted and unshuffled in their determination to re-enthrone Governor Akpabio as governor-elect in 2011, despite flattering media reports of other aspirants' activities within the domain.
In a telephone interaction with Insight Newspaper's reporter, Hon. Effanga wondered why the launching of the campaign of Senator Akpanudoedehe, an event which drew crowd from other 30 local government areas of the state should be misconstrued to reflect the stands of the politically conscious Uyo indigenes.
According to Hon. Effanga, “what you, the press describe as mammoth crowd from Uyo was a story blown out of proportion, to deliberately create panic in the minds of Uyo people. In Uyo here, if you take a roll-call of political stakeholders, you will discover that the overwhelming majority are on the side of Gov. Akpabio.
“In the grassroots, the overwhelming majority are on the side of Governor Akpabio. So, its no call for concern, it does not in any way shake the system or call for concern, or cause panic, we dey kampe”.
While expressing optimism that the obstruction of the traffic flow along the major street where the campaign office launch was held was not deliberate, Hon. Effanga argued. “What you saw was more of a situation where people that would have passed to their businesses were obstructed by the slow movement of the convoy that was heading to the launching venue and those people who were meandering their way through may have been mistaken as crowd of the aspirant. Even church rallies do obstruct people and motorists' pace of movement”.
The Commissioner frowned at the situation where fragment of supporters drawn from all nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State should be used as a yardstick for adjudging or otherwise of an aspirant within the Uyo vicinity. He enthused that “overwhelming majority of Uyo Local government politicians have read between the lines, they know that its futility to contest for a sit that is not vacant, they know that the dismal number of gubernatorial aspirants for the Hilltop Mansion in 2011 show the wide acceptability of the present governor and cannot therefore be misled. Hon. Effanga further stated that “if rallies were to have begun and Gov. Akpabio was to walk along the road, the whole city would grow agog with crowd that we will be managing to control, yes that is how to compare”, he added.
He however advice the press not to be used as channel through which fictitious stories aimed at misinforming and misleading the public are -published.    Comments
